My analysis of Multistar guiding is a unique blog post because I explain the intricacies of the PHD2 multistar guiding algorithm and show how they affect your guiding. My analysis also highlights the issues with multistar guiding that I have found. I chose to address these issues by creating my own version of multistar guiding. Not only do I document how my version addresses the issues found, I also provide a download link to my version of PHD2 Guiding for your evaluation. I decided to break my analysis into three parts.
Part 1 is an introduction to multistar guiding where key concepts are explained. I also provide a link to a program I wrote as a companion app for PHD2 Guiding. It uses the PHD2 Server and the PHD2 Debug logs to provide a real-time display of many of the parameters involved. My app also provides real-time performance graphs so you can learn more about this algorithm and even make comparisons between single star and multistar guiding.
Part 2 is where I document the issues I have found. You will learn about how multiple stars behave and how the algorithm deals with these behaviors. You will also learn about the issues I have found with this algorithm.
Part 3 documents how I chose to deal with the issues I found. I provide real-life performance comparisons between the existing multistar guiding algorithm and my algorithm. I also provide a link where you can download my version of PHD2 Guiding so that you can evaluate it for yourselves. The app available for download in part 1 can also be used to compare the differences between my version and the official version of multistar guiding.
I hope you enjoy my analysis of PHD2 Multistar Guiding
